FAQs

Here's a list of frequently asked questions.  Many of you may not be familiar with Reiki and its fabulous benefits.  If you still have any additional questions, please contact me and I will be happy to advise.

What exactly is Reiki?

The word Reiki (ray  key) is Japanese for universal life energy, the energy found in all life. The Usui System of Reiki Healing applies this energy through gentle touch for the purpose of healing. This healing method was developed in Japan about a hundred years ago, born out of an age-old awareness of the subtle energies that make up the material world.

Reiki is increasingly used in hospitals, hospices, and clinics to reduce pain, accelerate healing, and relieve emotional distress.  When you're sick or upset, your body and mind have to work even harder just to maintain some balance, adding stress to your already stressed out system.  Reiki treatment relieves stress and restores the body's vital energy, bringing accelerated healing, improved well-being, and pain relief. Belief is not necessary, as Reiki is not a religion.  Studies prove it and hospitals use it. And Reiki treats both the symptom and its underlying cause.

How will Reiki make me feel?

Reiki may be experienced as a flow of energy, mild tingling, warmth, coolness, other sensations, or nothing at all. Reiki is deeply relaxing and has a profoundly calming effect.

What happens during a treatment?

When you come for a treatment, your comfort is our first priority. You'll rest on a chaise longue, fully clothed, removing only your shoes, glasses, and jangly jewellery.  First we'll discuss why you are seeking treatment and then we'll explain what we're going to do and how.  Can't lie down?  No problem.   Well find you a comfortable position. We can even treat you sitting up in a chair.  Reiki is a touch therapy, meaning that the practitioner's hands make contact with your body.  The touch is very light, and the hands don't massage or manipulate the tissues.  But if you prefer not be touched at all,  let us know as Reiki will also do its wonderful work  without the need for touch.

After the treatment has taken place, you will be given time to awaken, take some some herbal tea or water and then we'll discuss together what transpired for us both during the process and recommendations for further treatment will be made if required.

Reiki treatment is completely safe, no matter what your condition. Because the touch is light and non-invasive, Reiki is fine  to use when other touch therapies are not.  Reiki will not interact with the medication you are taking or interfere with your standard medical treatment in any way.  In fact, it can support the work that your doctor is doing to help you feel better.

Are there any side-effects?

After your treatment, it is important to rest and to drink plenty of water over the next 48 hours.  This will help to flush through the toxins eliminated by your Reiki treatment and assist in the healing process.  Think of it as  a detox on FOUR levels, emotional, mental, physical and spiritual.

It is therefore quite common to  experience symptoms such as:

- feeling emotional
- feeling cold or hot
- a mild upset stomach
- headache
- increased urination
- tingling
- travelling aches or pains.

Why does this happen?

Because energy is shifting throughout your body and re-balancing, the cleansing process has been triggered and toxins are being released.

How many treatments will I need?

Even one single Reiki session can make a difference; however a course of regular treatments may be more effective. These may be weekly, fortnightly or less often depending on the needs of the individual. A treatment plan will be discussed with you, and reviewed as necessary. This will always be subject to your own preferences, and can be changed at any time according to progress.
