Signs of stress

The healing powers of Reiki are extremely profound and they work on the physical, emotional and spiritual levels. Reiki is extremely effective for physical issues but it is also just as effective for emotional issues such as stress. This is because it heals you on the emotional level, teaching you how to relax. Reiki treatments also completely relax you, and it is this utter relaxation that helps to reduce and eliminate stress from your life.Reiki also helps to heal the past emotional traumas that you have suffered and have repressed. This is important as these traumas have a negative effect on you, preventing your self development and making you feel as if you cannot be yourself. Once these traumas are healed and you feel as though you can be yourself again, you will become much better able to cope with the situations around you, thus reducing your stress. Essentially you will be able to see the bigger picture and realise that the things that you thought mattered really didn't matter at all. Reiki will also help you to stay away from situations that can be harmful to you, which are generally stressful situations by nature.

Perhaps one, some or all of the following areas of stress noted below resonate with you.  If they do, Reiki can and does help with them all. Reiki is an investment in YOU and with time will change your life for the better helping you to cope and to live a stress free, happy and healthy life with profound and lasting effects on every level.

Work related stress

Work-related stress can be caused by a number of things. You might feel under pressure at work because of your workload, deadlines, the environment you work in or your colleagues.

Stress affects one in five people of the working population and is the biggest cause of sickness in the UK. Over 105 million working days are lost each year because of work-related stress. Nearly half a million people in the UK believe that they have work-related stress at a level that is making them ill.

Work-related stress can

cause psychological,

emotional, physical and

behavioural problems.

Because everyone reacts

to stress in different ways

depending on their

personality and how they respond to pressure, symptoms may vary.

However, some common psychological symptoms include:

• feeling that you can't cope • being unable to

concentrate • lacking confidence • a loss of

  motivation and commitment • disappointment

  with yourself,

You might also have emotional symptoms, such as:

• negative or depressive feelings • increased

emotional reactions e.g.  feeling tearful or

sensitive • irritability or having a short temper •

  feeling overwhelmed • mood swings.

You may also get physical symptoms. These may include:

• diarrhoea or constipation • indigestion •

headaches • weight changes • chest pains •

  joint  or back pain.

Your behaviour might also change and may include:

• eating more or less • sleeping too much or too

little • isolating yourself from others • drinking

alcohol, smoking or taking illegal drugs to

Today’s world is so fast moving that few of us have time to truly enjoy it. Technology progresses daily, time flies even when we’re not having fun and just trying to balance work and family life, is pressure enough .The pressures of the economic market coupled with the fast paced lives we all seem to be leading and the constant contact we now all have with our working lives because of technology, all equates to stress levels being at an all time high.

Studies show that therapies such as Reiki can encourage clear thinking and productivity and can therefore help reduce time taken off by employees for stress related illnesses.

Relationship stress can be caused by a drip-drip effect of, for example, never-ending criticism, shouting, arguments,  etc.  It can also come about as a result of a crisis, such as an affair, illness, the death of a loved one or other family problems.

Avoiding issues can provide temporary relief, but they may lead to long-term trouble. Stress, whether from inside or outside your relationship/marriage, is likely to affect the way you think, feel and behave.  This invariably impacts on your spouse/partner and can become a vicious circle. On the home front, you may be dealing with the controlling behaviour of a domineering partner, or you may be struggling to improve the troubled relationships with your in-laws. Frictions with your in-laws (and specifically with your mother in-law) could lead to mental and emotional stress as well as unresolved conflicts that last for years.  Marital affairs and divorce could be the tragic consequences which bring on a whole new level of intensity to

relationship stress.

Coping with

divorce stress can

also be particularly

debilitating. After

spending years

creating that happy

partnership and

family you dreamed about, having it all end in divorce is one of the most devastating occurrences you'll experience in life. The hurt and sense of betrayal is hard to put into words and your friends may not understand the pain you're going through. With separation and divorce comes a feeling of grief, despair, fear about your future and yes, a tremendous amount of stress.

Divorce and family breakdown are topping the relationship stress list of most women for yet another reason. If you are a parent going through divorce, then you are under a tremendous amount of stress. You may be feeling a lot of anger as a result of the divorce. But that's not all. You may also be feeling a deep sense of rejection and low-self worth, which robs you of your ability to offer the emotional support your children urgently need to help them cope with the dramatic changes that result from the divorce.

Financial problems can also cause relationship stress. Financial worries and fighting about money are frequently identified as a major reason for marital problems. As financial and other problems increase, arguing couples may drift farther apart resulting in a possible total breakdown in the relationship.

Reiki helps you stay centered in yourself, rather than trying to be what someone else wants you to be. It's often hard to love and value ourselves but Reiki can help you truly connect to that best part of yourself. If you're centered and feeling good about who you are, you'll attract healthy relationships.

Reiki also helps with neediness—rather than being clingy, Reiki helps you connect to yourself and something higher than yourself (Spirit, Universal Energy, God, whatever you want to call it), instead of relying on someone else to fill a void.

Reiki can help you gain clarity, tap into your intuition, and discover your inner wisdom.  It can also give you big-picture perspective to better assess if your relationship is working or if something needs to change.

Physical stress

It's been estimated that as many as 90% of doctors visits are for symptoms that are at least partially stress-related.

When faced with chronic stress and an overactivated autonomic nervous system, you may begin to see physical symptoms. The first symptoms are relatively mild, like chronic headaches and increased susceptibility to colds. With more exposure to chronic stress, however, more serious health problems may develop.

These stress-influenced conditions include, but are not limited to:

• recurrent illnesses e.g. colds, flu,

• migraine, cluster headaches

• insomnia• fatigue, exhaustion, low energy levels

• hormonal irregularities e.g. PMT,

  pre/post menopausal symptoms

• depression/anxiety

• diabetes

• heart disease

• backache/neckache, shoulder tension

• weight loss/weight gain

• sexual dysfunction/low libido

• nausea, stomach cramps.

The chemical and hormonal changes which affect every single organ of your body when you are stressed, have not evolved and developed along with today's modern fast paced society. Your subconscious biological protection systems that were designed to help you protect yourself from physical threat have become the major health issue in modern 'developed' societies.

These protection systems react to mental issues in a similar way that they respond to physical threats. The main difference is that the mental issues don't go away quickly, thus your body remains in a dangerously 'alert' state for unhealthy periods of time. This extended 'alert' body state leads to the symptoms of stress listed above and eventually to many many very serious health problems.

You know when there's something you really want—say, a healthy relationship, or a specific goal, or a challenge to overcome? And even though it's a positive thing, you can feel in your body where you hold resistance to it. Maybe because change can be scary, maybe because it stretches you to grow, but from whatever place that this resistance is coming from, Reiki can be very effective at softening and helping you let go of it and ALL of it!
