I just wanted to thank you so much for all you did tonight. It was wonderful for me to see him revert to his younger, happy self and it's a lovely memory for me to have when the time comes. He's just wolfed down a larger-than-usual supper and seems very settled in his new bed. I will observe him over the next couple of days and let you know how he is. And, again, my thanks. Best wishes, Anthea

Pet Reiki

Reiki works well with animals for the same reasons it works well on people of all ages.

Have you ever noticed that when you pet an animal, he rolls over to receive more or looks at you with lovey-dovey eyes or sighs?

Animals respond to your loving touch and intention. Reiki is another way to help your animals feel better.

Reiki can be given to animals in the following situations:

  • When they are ill: Reiki helps the healing process and works with any type of medical intervention.

  • When they are young or old: You can use Reiki on an animal of any age or situation.

  • When they have been through a trauma: Animals can use loving energy after they've experienced any type of abuse, loss, or move, or if they seem to exhibit depression or other behavioral disorder. Even if you don't know what the problem is, Reiki can be used to help.

  • As is the case for humans, Reiki healing sometimes leads to a curing of an animal's illness, but it may also lead to a peaceful death. Reiki doesn't change the natural order of events, but it enhances the experience by giving a dose of love.

'Thank you so much for all your help and support for my precious little Westie.' Sharon, Cambs.

When my adult male cat, Gorjuss (because he is!), was diagnosed with an aggressive and terminal recurrence of cancer in December 2013, the vet explained that, apart from pain medication, there was little that traditional veterinary medicine could offer him. His opinion was that Gorjuss would not live past the New Year. And, as he had already had an amputation two years previously, I was reluctant to put him through any further operations which could only offer a short life extension.

I knew I had to do something to ease his final days and another of my cats had had reiki in Norfolk about ten years ago.

But I had no idea where to turn in the Newmarket area and my vet – excellent though the practice is – did not have a

list of alternative therapy resources. I scoured the internet and found Lisa’s inspiring website, booked an appointment

and took him along. From the very first session – and he has twice-weekly sessions now – he is a changed animal. He

relaxes, purrs, explores the calm reiki treatment room at some speed for a three-legged boy, ‘talks’ to us, sits on Lisa’s

lap and finally falls into a deep sleep during which time Lisa warps her arms around him completely and gives the reiki.

I can honestly say that the transformation is remarkable and it is a delight for me to see him return to the terrific cat

I have had the fortune to live with for the last eight years or so.

Lisa also gives him ‘distance reiki’ if he needs a top-up and I cannot take him to her house. I have no idea how this works (Lisa calls it ‘wi-fi reiki’!)  but I have an open mind and can vouch for the fact that it does work for him – it is the same reaction. She then provides me with a follow-up email or text explaining what she has picked up from him. I use this to adapt my care of him and it all makes perfect sense.

I am a medical person and know and appreciate the value of traditional medicine both for humans and animals. And I stress that if I thought he should have been put to sleep by now I would have done so. But speaking with the vet recently, I am assured that Gorjuss is not at that stage yet. And although he does have ‘off’ days he seems content and is still doing normal cat things.

Lisa seems to have an innate understanding of animals and what they are going through. Of course, I can only speak from my own personal experience but if you have an animal companion whose condition is terminal, or even one that needs some support during a difficult time, please consider reiki. You will have nothing to lose and it may be just the treatment your pet needs. It certainly is for Gorjuss. Wish him well if you have a moment….  AB, Fordham
